Question:
Question about the people who answer questions on the 'Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered ' section of Yahoo Answers.?

I recently asked a question on this forum about gay males and their discovery of their homosexuality. Question doesn't matter here.

I expected to get answers from homosexuals. Instead, I was absolutely SLAMMED with a flood of people who have seriously regressive, homophobic and hateful opinions about homosexuals.

This was shocking, to say the least. If a person has such vile opinions on gays, why would they haunt this particular forum? This is what I asked myself.

Now, I'd like to hear from LGBT people and why they think such people answer questions here. Why they visit, read & respond, do you think?

I am not gay, and I was mercilessly attacked (I'd made it clear I wasn't in my question). Are all of your (LGBT) questions here so flooded?

My own conclusion for these people's presence was twofold. Some were religious fanatics (I'm Catholic, too - no problem w/ gays) and the larger number were self-LOATHING homosexuals - active or not - who congregate at these forums as a form of self flagellation or catharsis gained by attacking LGBT people living openly. Love to hear y'all's (LGBT) opinions!

Last question. Is this common at ALL homosexual forums?

Thanks!

Why do some personalities engage in trolling?

http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/climate_desk/2014/02/internet_troll_personality_study_machiavellianism_narcissism_psychopathy.html

Science confirms it: Internet trolls are horrible people. They're not seeking answers. They crave emotional responses, attention & validation. Many are narcissistic, Machiavellian, psychopathic, or sadistic. Yummy.

Social media attracts trolls. Yahoo in particular seems a magnet for the maladjusted & socially inept. Many forums have their own unique troll species.

Women's Health is haunted by sexual perverts, Culture & Groups is rife with racists, the misogynists run amok in Gender Studies, and in Religion & Spirituality the Christians are fed to lions in 15 minute intervals.

LGBT has been assigned... the homophobe. Lucky us. Hurray. It's not one of the handsomest troll species, true. Neither is it mannered, nor exceptionally bright, but all things considered--- good looks & education aren't everything. Persistence counts & our troll is tenaciously loyal.

They are ignorant people full of hate that have nothing better to do with their lives. I don't think I will ever understand why homophobes take the time to answer questions in this category. I guess it's because theyre sad about their own boring lives

Yahoo Answers is actually an awful place to get real answers to questions.

Most of the people on here are just trolls

Yahoo answers has a very mixed set of answerers:

People who want to answer questions

Trolls/ Flamers

The far right/left who want to post their beliefs whilst causing maximum offence

Miscellaneous piss-takers

I'm afraid you have to sift through the bad responses to get a decent one.

You cant know how many nutters you will stumble upon when in a place like this.

You can stop and reflect and maybe identify flaws in their rants.

Trolls attack groups that they consider weak, and they consider gays weak.

If you guys started ignoring them I believe they'd go away.

I used to troll this section when I was bored because I knew I'd get a response plus it's not like gays are a race, or a religion. It's easy pickings

I am a gay, catholic and buddhist. Also I am a level 7 on here which means I've been here for a while.

No, I don't check out other forums - there is no time - I do have to earn a living!

The bullying on this board is simply inexcusable. Y/A is terrible for not moderating it better. But there are also a lot of people who need questions answered so I stick around to help them. I continually report and block trolls. When enough people do that the troll gets kicked off and posts are deleted. Taking on trolls directly is a waiste of time. They are not here to learn. My reward is helping those who need it.

Incidently - our current president got to his position with the help of trolls. Just look at the commets on any online newspaper. Trolls need to be dealt with better.

Fyi - I am out. I am a dignity usa catholic - that means I am the type of catholic pushing for gay rights in the church. Most lay catholics are pro lgbt rights.

self-LOATHING LGBT pretty much nails it, with a few circle jerks thrown in.

Because this is a public website in which people share their opinions.

Sorry snowflake.

Oh, and trannies are mentally ill freaks who need to be told time and time again that they are not normal and will never fit into society.

I'm not mad. I'm just saying people who think that being born female means you're male, and vice versa, are retarded.

TUMBLR LOL

And yes, Jeremy. Not thinking men are women means I'm a tranny myself.

Liberal logic is flawed

Gay people don't chop up their genitalia and claim to be the opposite sex.

Trannies do. That's why they are mentally ill but gays aren't.

I read some of these questions and answer just a few because I am interested (to a degree) in the opinions being expressed in LGBT issues, which whether we like or not are becoming more publically visible.

From this I sense there are some folk who can answer openly and intelligently, at least with an honest opinion. I value those. Those that simply throw out hateful or sick comments - well I simply ignore them - these type of people with no vision exist in all walks of life, not just in this forum.

At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter what others think of the LGBT community, or oneself. If I was to be concerned about what others think, well my life would consist of constant hand wringing. So cut out the deliberately provocative responses and I get a sense of what people think outside my own social circle.

No, we are all equal and have a basic human right to live our lives without oppression and victimisation so long as we don't hurt others in any way.

Yes it angers me that many who come here to this section of Yahoo answers who only come here to be abusive or think that praying to god will turn people straight. We should appeal to Yahoo to have these people permanently banned from spewing their homophobic rubbish on this section. Obviously these trolls have no sex life so come here to try and destroy gay people to make themselves feel better.

You pretty much have it right. I'm not homosexual either, but I completely support the rights of those who are. I've had several gay/lesbian friends over the years. They're fun people.

Most of the people who hate people that are openly homosexual, are like you said, religious, self-loathing, or both. I just wouldn't worry much about them.

It's like that preacher in Louisiana that said "god sends floods to wipe out the homosexuals for their wickedness." Recently his home in Baton Rouge was badly flooded. If his original statement is true, what's he doing in his spare time while his wife's at bingo? Lmao

with that said... i think homophobic guys come in here expecting to shame people back to the straight community. but they dont understand that only SOME people can change their sexual preference. others were born this way.

Yahoo exercises nearly no supervision over this message base, so it's a playground for trolls.

I do it to shine a light on the agendas of the gay community that they continuously try to hide. Throughout my younger years I had bad luck with women, I frequently was at their bottom of the lists, treated like a second rate man. Members of the gay community kept trying to get me to leave the straight community, giving the impression that if I did, I would have lines of people knocking on my door for sex.

But I did my research and learned the whole story. They really would be lining up to my door, but it would be to f*ck me in the a**. It was incorrectly assumed that my bad luck with women gave me low self esteem, made me feel lesser than other men, and would make me be willing to get down on my hands and knees like a dog and bow down to other men.

They were wrong. I was raised to walk with my head held high and bow down to no other man. So the fact that those gay recruiters thought otherwise offended me greatly and showed me how willing they would be to take advantage of someone who is not as confident and mentally strong as myself. And what's funny about it is that they seriously thought I would leave the straight community were I was second rate, to go to the gay community where I would be someone's b*tch. That makes no sense to me at all, because I believe it moving upwards in life, not sideways. And since it pisses me of that they thought they could fool me into go through with that, I make sure that everyone knows about their games.

Its does seem counter-intuitive that people who are against something become so preoccupied with it. Like Nazis, instead of ignoring Jews, spend pretty much all of their time hating on them. But, upon further examination, you realise that these people are attempting to victimise large groups of people. Murdering six million Jews released a lot of available wealth to the Nazis. And so it is with any hate group: Persecuting Gays give homophobes a large crop of Victims. I imagine that wolves probably dream of deer flesh also.

Have no clue what you are speaking of but know there are a lot of small minded morons who have nothing better to do than let their ignorace shine on this site. If they don't hate you for race it will be your sex then weight then hair color we have republicans who must feel better than the fellow man.

Thankfully in our DEMOCRACY the CRIMINAL LAW is used to deal with the terrible intolerance, hatred, bigotry, homophobia and persecution by BAD Christians towards others that is rated as HATE CRIME with harsher sentences!

Who knows if it's common for all gay forums, they probably have a particular interest in LGBT issues and maybe feel more at ease expressing their opinions online rather than in real life. I understand why some people are self loathing (religious bisexual here) but I don't think God hates us. We are all his creatures. Religious folks who are anti gay have the right to think that way though.

There are also a lot of irrelevant questions here, kind of funny actually! But obviously don't take it seriously if you're attacked online, You should see L-chat, that site is full of so much negativity, especially from lesbian women to bi women. Not saying all gay forums are loaded, but maybe a few particular ones. Even places like the guardian and daily mail are pretty bad in the comments. I'm guessing as long as there are LGBT people, people who are strongly anti LGBT will seek them out to make sure they share their disapproval, and find unity in that.

there are a lot of ignorant self righteous people out there who claim to be "good christians" but because these sites are anonymous they can get away with being very cruel. And yes, gay sites always have lots of a- holes here. Thanks for being supportive.

Gay girl here -- Yeah, this kind of stuff is pretty common in the LGBT+ forum on Yahoo answers. I think it's just homophobic people who just.. Want to feel mad about something? It's like they're digging through our questions to find that "gay agenda" they're always talking about. Lol. I can only assume they have nothing better to do than yell their opinions in order to validate themselves or, maybe, make them feel like what they think matters or will change anything. It's hard to get inside the minds of people who feed off hate.

But, luckily, not all lgbt+ forums/groups are like this! Since Yahoo answers is commonly used by older/more conservative people, they have more access to this forum than most others. There are plenty of sites just for talking about lgbt+ stuff that seem pretty positive in general. There are also some great communities on Tumblr that seem entirely free of homophobes.

Yes, hateful, vicious anti-gay trolling is completely standard almost everywhere on line. Certainly on YA. Why? They're sadists, they're bored, they're frustrated and the only way they can make themselves feel better about their own pathetic lives is to attack other people.
