Question:
How can you be a homosexual and claim to be a christian too?
Brandon B

It does not make any sense. Christians are supposed to turn their lives away from sin. God spoke to moses in the book of Leviticus and told him all of the sexual sins. "HOMOSEXUALITY" or a man laying down with another man as he would a woman is stated as being an abomination a hated sin. So for ayone that is gay and claims to be a christian you are lying to yourself

I don't consider an opinion gay bashing, but I don't agree with your views.... here's why:

Everyone sins... whether it's playing football, masterbating, or cheating on a spouse, it's a sin... so why focus on just one? Condemn the entire planet, because at this rate, we're all going to hell.

The same Bible that condemns homosexuality also forbids the wearing of garments of wool and linen blends (so that shirt you've got on is a sin, buddy) Leviticus 19:19

And the same Bible that condemns homosexuality also forbids touching the skin of a dead pig (so you can never play football again or eat a delicious Christmas ham, sorry!) Leviticus 11:7-8

Although we don't agree, I love God and Jesus, or CHRIST, which makes me a CHRISTIAN

How can you call yourself a Christian while quoting Levitical law. When God sent His only son to die for our sins, He offered those who chose to believe a new covenant. The Old Testament is practially moot for Christians.

But since you brought up Lev. let's talk about 'abominations' in the book. If you eat shellfish or wear clothes made from two separate fibers, or sow one field with two or more types of crops, those are all 'abominations.'

For a more modern approach, many biblical scholars now believe that the word that is most often translated as homosexual, really should be translated as 'temple prostitute.' Or someone who has ritualistic sex as part of a spiritual ceremony. Mostly considered a "pagan" practice.

If you believe that God created mankind in His image, and God is love, then how can you believe that love, whatever form it takes, is 'against God.'

God bless.

I have to disagree with you. I am a heterosexual, and a Christian. The basis of my Christianity is my relationship with God. I know very well what Leviticus says, and if you feel you need to keep the Old Law, by all means do.

However, I just can't understand how someone could read the teachings and life of Jesus and honestly justify the rantings you just wrote. I came 'back' to Christianity because of the teachings of love and forgiveness. If someone tells me they accept Jesus, and I see love in their life and not hate, they are my brother or sister. For me, it's that simple, and very easy to live with.

Since you mentioned Leviticus, I take it from your question that you abide by ALL the books and laws of the Old Testament. I assume then, that you never eat shell fish or pork, that you advocate the stoning of adulturers, disobediant children and those who work on the Sabbath. Obviously you regard women who are menstruating as "unclean" and would require widows to marry their late husband's brother. Further, I suspect you are fine with owning slaves (as long as they come from neighboring countries), that you burn bulls on an altar as a sacrifice, that you never wear clothing made of 'blends', that you are opposed to farmers planting two different crops in the same field or men who cut their hair.......I could go on and on.

I suspect, actually, that you don't hold bigoted beliefs about gay people because of the Bible; rather, you use the Bible to justify your bigotry. Otherwise you would follow ALL the rules I have mentioned above (all found in the Bible) and many, many more without exception. I think you are lying to YOURSELF.

Didn't God create man in HIS image? Doesn't that mean that God is gay, straight, black, white, muslin, christian, and everything else?

Doesn't your sacred bible also say, "judge not lest ye be judged", as well as "let he who is without sin be the first to cast a stone"?

How DARE you get so self-righteous to tell any of God's children that they are sinners... you should be ashamed. Gay Christians are having a bad enough time trying to deal with their sexuality (the way God MADE them) while maintaining their faith- they don't need an idiot like you preaching in their face.

Your view on christianity is flawed. It is not about removing yourself from sin but about living your life inline with my 10 commendments. Sin is a manmade concept. By this very question you have shown that you are incapable of doing so. Also a gay man does not lie with a man as a woman, he lies with a man as a man in full knowledge of all his manlyness. There is a difference in solical concepts since the bible was written, if you cannot factor that in then you are truely beyond help!.

So this means, anyone who's ever committed adultery can't claim Christianity?Anyone who's ever stolen something? Anyone who's ever gotten a divorce? These are all written sins in the Bible. God loves us all,we are all one in the same. Why? Because in the end, we all die and in the begining we are all born. I'm straight, and honestly don't have too many homosexual friends, but I can't stand it when they are judged the way you have judged them. If you were really Christian, you wouldn't judge your brother, as the bible tells us not to.

By the Old Testament you can't. Homosexuality in the Old Testament was punishable by death. However, most people claim that since Jesus freed his people from the law and told us to love one another, it's all okay.

I don't see how Christians deal with this kind of contradiction. Jesus and God are supposed to be parts of the same person, right? And God is supposedly the same yesterday, today and forever. So how can he be this super cuddly God of love in the New Testament? I mean, anyone who has read the Old Testament knows that this is one mean sob. He urged his people to genocide and ritualistic murder, and actually turned away from them when they didn't want to do it. This to me is one of the major contradictions of modern christianity.
2006-10-06 15:34:06 UTC
How can you judge others, and preach hatred, bigotry, discrimination, and therefore violence against LGBT people and claim to be a 'christian' too? Oh I get it - it's ironic - you're just a hypocrite.

So for anyone that claims to be a 'christian' and does not work for tolerance, peace and equality, you are lying to yourself and everyone else. WWJD?

How can love be a SIN?

A good and honest man CAN love another man (not only sex), this can not be a SIN.

The narrow mindedness of most of the churches are to blame for this thinking and the believers are not thinkers.

first off, the bible is incomplete. there are upwards of 12 books not allowed by the church to be in the bible. second the old testament contradicts the new, third those twelve books equal to almost 600 pages of text still aren't in the bible, let alone the thousands of pages and scrolls that can't be translated. christianity is an incomplete faith , but if you want me to speak of the bible, the new testament says we shall adjust to new times. basically adapting yourself to your habitat. am i saying that homosexuality is right, no. but am i saying it's wrong , no. everyone has different ideas of love and lust. let them have them it's their idea. thats the beauty of being human is to love who you want and have freewill over it. i love my girl like a good buddy of mine loves his dude. i just think it's great that he could find someone on his level. Its hard to do. so stop worrying about homos and start loving people and life!
2006-10-06 03:09:58 UTC
Look anyone can pray-do u think God says oh wait he/she is gay so i won't listen to their prayers-Be for real. God loves everyone-it don't matter who u are or what u do-he loves you. It makes me mad for people to tell others if you do this and that you will go to hell-Well who are they to tell anyone where they will go~you need to take a closer look at your own life~before you make the call on someone else's!!!!!!!
2006-10-06 08:47:53 UTC
What narrow view of the Bible you have as typical of bigots of hate. How do you justify you being a christian? Why do those bigots of the right feel they are only true Christians?
2006-10-06 03:07:25 UTC
How can you be a bigot and be a Christian too? It's the same thing yeah. As HE would a woman. So God's condemning men who have sex with men & women. Not just men. maybe you should see the website:

You might learn something.

If a gay person calls themself a Christian, then they're a Christian.

You can't do a damn thing about it, and it's none of your business.

Who the hell do you think you are, anyway?

You speak for FEW, damn few Christians.
2006-10-06 02:44:23 UTC
I have a better question..assuming you consider yourself to be a Christian, HOW do you justify judging others? I believe that IF you were to read YOUR bible, that act is reserved for GOD!. Perhaps in all your piety, you have promoted yourself???

I think your'e gay. You need to lighten up. Oh, and make sure you never eat shrimp or wear a shirt made of more than one material, you sinner you.
2006-10-06 03:08:29 UTC
Well, Christians put the body of Christ in their mouth every Sunday during communion - Christ is believed to be a man...so any man who takes communion takes the body of Christ in his mouth; technically he is performing oral sex on Christ. Typical christian hypocrisy...

What about the scripture that says "Judge not, lest ye be judged"?

"Love thy neighbor as thyself".

Sounds like your version is very selective to protect you from the possibility of accepting anyone different from you.

Brandon B,

Thanks for asking that question.

"Christians are supposed to turn their lives away from sin."

I would like to ask you, assuming that you are Christian, how is it living as a sinful person and being a Christian? Are you beyond that? That is, living as a sinful person, you are not troubled by the ways of the flesh anymore? If you say no, then you are the same kind of person that any Homosexual Christian person is. That is: you are too living in sin. You don't identify it like typically Gay people do, but you have your problems, don't you?

"God spoke to moses in the book of Leviticus and told him all of the sexual sins."

And the word Sodomy comes up.

sodomy (dictionary.com)

1.anal or oral copulation with a member of the opposite sex.

2.copulation with a member of the same sex.

This is an interesting word when the history of it is made clear.

sod·om·y (sd-m)

n.

Any of various forms of sexual intercourse held to be unnatural or abnormal, especially anal intercourse or bestiality.

[Middle English sodomie, from Old French, from Sodome Sodom, from Latin Sodoma, from Greek, from Hebrew sdm.]

You see, before our modern times, sodomy meant any kind of sexual practice that was not the supposed (arbitrarily decided) function of sexual intercourse. So the modern meaning has changed, and quite frankly, let everyone else off the hook.

That being understood, you might be aware that any judgement of another person committing the act of Sodomy may also be guilty of it, in biblical meaning of course. It is a hated abomination, as you say yourself, right? I guess that means masterbation as well, right?

"So for ayone that is gay and claims to be a christian you are lying to yourself"

WRONG! I love this. That you would say something that seems right along the errant Christian frame of today, for you are exposing yourself as someone who knows nothing about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. How many years have you been Christian?

A Christian is a Christian because he/she believe's that he/she is a sinner, and needs God's grace. Grace means unmerited favor. That means you don't deserve the awaiting gift that God has for you, but He will give it to you anyway.

Our text comes from the Bible first. So let me show you a verse:

Romans 1:5

I received God's grace because of what Jesus did so that I could bring glory to him.

That's in line to what I have been telling you. It's not earned, it's what Jesus did that earned it.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

We all have sinned, and fallen short of His standard of perfection. But we are justified in His eyes through the work of Jesus.

Look up "propitiation." That's what Jesus was able to accomplish through no mistake.

So what makes me different to those who merely say, " I beleive in God."?

It's faith. But what definition of faith am I using? ( Remember to always look up words, even if you think that you understand them.)

Faith, as I have learned it, is: An action, based upon belief, sustained by confidence.

So it is not just simply believing, there's action involved.

Example:

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

The action, belief, and confidence are within that verse. True faith, and that's what makes you saved. You have to trust God. It's all about Jesus, you have to trust Jesus.

So your condemnation, which is by definition, not the Gospel, and you weren't told to preach it by Jesus (so what possessed you to bring it here?), is errant. It's not another Gospel. And Paul said:

Galatians 1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:

7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

I'll let that speak for me. It's about trusting God, not whatever it is that you rode in with.

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law.

I have learned a great deal from you, and I try to share that knowledge

with as many people as I can.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other specific

Biblical laws and how to follow them.

a) When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a

pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev. 1:9). The problem is my neighbors.

They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

b) I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in

Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price

for her?

c) I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her

period of menstrual uncleanness (Lev.15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell?

I have tried asking, but most women take offense. If I come into contact with

a woman who is menstruating and she doesn't tell me until afterwards, must I

kill her immediately or can I just beat her?

d) Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female,

provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims

that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify?

Why can't I own Canadians?

e) I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2

clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill

him myself? Also, is Sabbath on Saturday as Seventh Day Adventists

(Christians, like us...or are they?) or is it on Sunday as Baptists and

some other faiths agree? I am beset by not knowing who to kill and when

to kill them...please clarify this for me.

f) A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination

(Lev. 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality (Lev. 18:22).

I don't agree. I'm also confused about how homosexuality can be an abomination

when Jonathan and David were married in the Bible (1 Samuel 18:1, 3 - 4).

Here, I'll quote it - "And it came to pass, when he had made an end of

speaking unto Saul that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David

and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. Then Jonathan and David made a

covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. And Jonathan stripped himself

of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even

to his sword and to his bow and to his girdle." and also Ruth's relationship

with Naomi is suspect, (Ruth 1:16-17) "And Ruth said to Naomi, Entreat me not

to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest,

I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people,

and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried:

the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part three and me.

" Can you settle this?

g) Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a

defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my

vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

h) Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around

their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev.19:27 and even

though 1st Cor. 11:4-6 says that it is a shame upon a man to have long hair.

How should they die?

i) I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me

unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves? Also, since it is

strictly forbidden to "eat neither fat nor blood" in Lev. 3:17 & Lev. 19:26,

does that mean that I must be a vegetarian and must I smite those who choose

to eat meat?

j) My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different

crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two

different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse

and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of

getting the whole town together to stone them (Lev.24:10-16)? Couldn't we just

burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep

with their in-laws (Lev. 20:14)?

k) I know that it is an abomination for a man to wear a woman's clothes or a

woman to wear a man's (Deut. 22:5), so does that mean that since my wife

borrowed my boxers once, she's going to hell?

l) An unbeliever sent me an email telling me that God is an ABORTIONIST? It

says, "In Num. 5:11-31, God commands a husband to get an abortion for his wife

if he suspects she has been impregnated by another man. A priest is to make her

drink a potion and tell her, "If any man other than your husband has had

intercourse with you, may the LORD make an example of you . . . by bringing

upon you miscarriage and untimely birth." To deliberately cause a miscarriage

is to perform an abortion. And who brings about this miscarriage? Who performs

this abortion? It is the LORD who does so. God is an abortionist. In Ex. 21:22-25,

God tells us what to do if a man who is fighting knocks against a pregnant woman.

If the woman dies, the principle of "life for life" is invoked and the man

responsible for her death must be killed. If she lives but has a miscarriage,

then the death of the fetus is to be compensated for by the payment of a fine,

as demanded by the woman's husband. Thus, God has revealed the status of the

unborn fetus: it is not an independent, full-fledged human life, whose

destruction amounts to murder. It is a thing owned by the woman's husband, a

thing whose loss, like that of any other thing, may be compensated for with

money." How can this be true?

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can

help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and

unchanging and also for the reassurance that the Bible is infallible.
