I think almost anybody can watch almost anything and enjoy it, if they are not anxious about what it might say about them.
Women OFTEN get dragged along to whatever a man wants to see. If a guy decides that XYZ Topless serves great steaks, a woman is likely to get her dinner served with a side order of breasts whether or not she likes it. If Boyfriend wants to see some stupidly violent and sexist movie and she wants to see something that involves emotions, guess what film they see on their date. If she wants to sit and watch TV with Boyfriend during football, or basketball, or baseball, or hockey season ... she has to learn to appreciate what HE wants to watch.

Many women are also far less threatened by other orientations than most men are. (There are rabid female homophobes, don't get me wrong, but far fewer than male.) Thus, a woman can watch a lesbian film and appreciate how the women feel, she can watch a gay film and appreciate the pretty men and the insight into male character, or she can watch het and identify with the woman.
Het men? Just mention that a film has gay characters and half of them will clear the room, metaphorically clutching their jewels.
