I tend to answer questions directly (I'd make a terrible politician). So, what I would do is patent it. In fact, I have invented something. It's a very technical improvement in a very technical industry so I won't describe it - that and I don't want to "let the cat out of the bag."

Patents are as important as, if not more important than, the invention itself. It is all well and good to invent something for the benefit of all humanity and start producing it without a patent - free to all. The next thing you will know is that some huge corporation has patented it and you are being sued by them. The latent laws changed recently. There is no "prior art" - it doesn't matter who actually invents something. What matter is who patents it first.

The first step (at least for me) is a consultation with a patent attorney to be certain that the invention can be patented - not all can be patented. The next step is a patent search to be sure that no one has already patented the invention. After that the patent is submitted - it gets pretty complex at this point and can be very expensive if you use the attorney's services but you are not required to - you can do this yourself if you can understand the process.

Most people do not understand the patent process - particularly what can and nan not be patented.

Well I just applied for a patent and am waiting with an attorney. As soon as I turned it over (our patent office is run by private people for the government), the idea somehow has been tried to throw out. Then immediately there's a person who made the idea up on television. Skip patent office and just make the thing. Sell it. I think get a patent pending and hell with the mess in the patent office. You are giving up your idea and now that there is global china can make it and then what? Even foreign protection can't stop it so why pay all that money to protect what someone can copy. Our world is an unethical grabby greedy place. Just make it yourself and sell if you can. They steal from the patent office which we have several people in our home town who have done patents only to have them award to someone other than the original inventor.

An artificial, outside of the human body womb that can take a fetus from a person's body and be able to care for it until it's the growth equivalent of 40 weeks in utero. There's a near-zero chance of survival for preemies that born before 23 weeks and this invention would be able to give them a much better chance of survival.

Teleportation device. It could save us all A lot of time from going to and fro etc. Although this is just wishful thinking I still want to add a realistic touch to it. The teleportation device will also need human energy for it to work. The consumed energy would equal to how much time it would take for you to get from one place to another, to avoid over exertion. So you can only teleport from a distance that you can walk to or run to. Hence the commute industry won't go down and also to avoid people overusing this device.

Thinking about security, the teleportation device can't be used on restricted area, thus an anti-teleporation zone device will also be used to counter anyone who would dare enter a private area.

I wouldn't tell you what invention I came up with. You may steal it. But then again maybe you wouldn't. If you have a great idea build it and present it. There are plenty of people looking to invest in you. Best of luck.

Thought this was a cool idea for a while now, invent a cost effective TV system where monthly, customers get to select whatever and however many channels as they want. Every 5 channels could cost... maybe $50 a month, 5 more? After 5 ordered channels, the rest cost a dollar each. The overall purpose is to get rid of those pesty junk channels.

this can be done by the right people today. I am just not smart enough.

we need a universal translator. a computer that you carry in your pocket that can translate any language to another language. example: you speak Chinese and I speak English and we can talk to each other.

or you speak Spanish and I speak German and we can talk. Just talk and the machine will hear it and translate it to you via a microphone in your ear. it would make all of us on Earth talk to each other. Great invention.

Go on vacation and talk to anybody, real time, instantly. we need a universal translator. Google, Apple, do you read this ?

What I would do? I would use it as well as offer it to others for their benefit.

What would I invent? A pocket sized portable 3 bedroom/2 bath home complete with waste water recycler, water collector and solar generator that's Bear and Bullet proof that can withstand Hurricane/Tornado wind forces and floats as a Houseboat when needed on wheels.

Top speed 75 MPH with a 2,000 mile range.

Price? A friendly handshake and a heartfelt thank you with a promise to put it to good use.

I would invent a robot almost like baymax with a more huggable appearance that could help A LOT of people. He would be able to perform surgery meaning he wouldn't be as fat as baymax was, would have a better battery. He would be stronger and more helpful in any situation and would never be able to hurt someone. A lot of people who have been in the hospital for a long time and/or will be can talk to him like a friend or someone to confide to since he would have human personalities and the abilities to keep secrets and talk and know when people feel sad, bored, happy, and other personalities. He would be an almost perfect robot doctor/friend. He wouldn't be perfect since nothing in this world is perfect but he would be pretty close.

I HAVE invented new things: one was a useful tool, and one was a new version of a toy that's already been out there for years. On the first I got a utility patent, so no one else can make any money off my idea. On the other I got a design patent, so that particular version of the toy is mine.

Now, the feds have made my patent public information, so I could just wait for someone to notice, but I paid a company to make my patent into something presentable to a company, who might want to buy it to make into a product. Waiting for a patent, and waiting to sell it, is the most boring part of inventing.

A self-sustaining room heater.

It would not have to be plugged in to a outlet, or require propane, or any other fuel.

I first thought of this when I saw news reports of the victims of hurricane Sandy. Many were staying in their apartments even without heat because they feared if they left, all their stuff would be stolen. I thought it would be good if there was a way they could have heat, without having to have electricity of buying propane fuel, so I started to work on an idea. I have a complete plan/blueprints, but no money to make the prototype. If I could make anything, that is what I would make.

Piece of cake. work with Mensa to design a game somewhat akin to Mensa Academy that could be used to Treat the cognitive component of burnout which has become a national epidemic. The cognitive component is based on ones perception of chronic stress. By exposing the patient to stress in a game like setting having the patient exposed to increasing levels of stress over prolonged periods with compensatory mechanisms becoming automatic somewhat akin to the automaticity required to play piano, type or drive a car.

At the same time monitor the patients level performance under stress as an indicator of therapy, the patient would then have a healthier perception of the work or combat environment. Software would be cheaper than tanks, guns, working retail or actually be working on wall street

i'd make it happen. before other people steal my idea. i've seen it happen so many times, its a real shame, i could be the one that's rich and successful. they just had resources and funds I don't have.

i can go to urban workshop or school to build my idea. there's a rapid prototyping class that i can take and i'd have access to a ton of resources and support to making my idea into a huge success. i can 3d print, i can mill, lathe, they can introduce me on how to do crowdfunding, how to market my invention, the patent process, etc. school's cheaper than urban workshop and other private workshops, its like $100 for 5 months of shop time and many resources vs $200 a month at urban workshop that only gives you the ability to make something.

old ideas taken by others:

'smart' sentry gun (two hs kids took it in 2004 and made it big, currently used on the korean dmz),

social networking people analyzer (fbi, nsa, dhs does that)

current ideas that i'm working on but have legal issues

threadless suppressor designs.

unjammable gun stuff

ideas that i don't have the resources to develop

laser taser- a wireless long range "lightning gun"

software for sentry guns and etc

hodge road app for mobile devices so people can shoot safely out there and know where everyone else is and what direction they're shooting in. when its a nice day in the desert alot of people are out there and i've seen many dangerous situations that can be easily resolved if there is an app so everyone can coordinate properly. if i knew how to program i'd make the app already and i could get the word out using calguns and other forums.

I've always had this idea since I've attended gym, deodorant socks. I've never seen them before so sorry if I sound extremely stupid right now. So anyways, don't you just hate how bad peoples socks smell after a full day of them being stuck inside a sweaty shoe? I think that there should be some sort of sock that activates when heat or moisture is detected so it produces a sweet smell instead of the smell of rotting cheese. The scent wouldn't be limited to just scents nor colors. In fact, they would be almost completely varied in designs. This is just a thought I've had for awhile. Please do tell me if it's already been invented!

Both. I'd create either drinking potion to go back how ever many years you want and live in that time; kind of like a time machine but in liquid form :)

Or, i'd create a vortex machine that you step into and you have your very own fantasy world with anything happening in it that you want. Such as instead of thinking and fantasizing over your fave, you can actually do it :)

Man what i'd do for any of those things...*begins day dreaming*

If you have no intentions on trying to develop your idea into a product then go ahead and say what it is. Otherwise, you may wish you hadn't posted anything that you are working on, either in the works, financially, or mentally getting the idea in order before you proceed. Obama asked a similar question while he was candidate the first term and I answered (I have many ideas) Now, some are on the market when they weren't at that time. Be careful and if this is fun for you so be it. So for the fun of it, I'd right now like to be able to program my tv to bleep certain words like Mr, President, and so on.

I would invent a robotic coil of rope that the police and security services could use to restrain and immobilize criminals. the rope would sneakily slither up to the target and wrap itself around them to bind them tightly enough to prevent escape. to be most effective it would have to bind the hands and feet but if they are sitting then it should focus on binding them to the seat. it would also be self adhesive so that if were to run out of power before authorities arrive then the prisoner still cannot escape. there would be a speaker so that an arresting officer can read the prisoner his rights.

A pair of glasses that makes you color blind because apparently people really do think the color of your skin makes others racist... I just want to prove them wrong. A company that takes all your money and collectively gives it out to people that need it. See everyone's money is collected in a pot and then their NEEDS are payed for. they all get the same apartment, car, utilities are all payed for but limited to the one person who uses the least in the apartment, you get a counter of how much water and electricity you used compared to others and then fined for going over that amount. Now how do you pay it when all your money was collected right? You got to jail and your credit is ruined for the rest of your life. Sounds great huh... that's our future you know.

A time machine to go back to when my life was fun and interesting. Me and my friends outside riding our bikes, and playing hopscotch while eating popsicles in the summertime. Going to Blockbuster to pick out movies/video games and candy and then going swimming. Also back to when I was elementary school because I'm in highschool now and it sucks. In elementary school you to take naps, go on fun field trips and in gym class we use to play with parachutes, I use to always bring lunchables to school, make Valentines day cards for classmates and also give out candy.
