Question:
Am I a little crazy to do this?

When I told my friend that 1,138 rights, tax deductions, privileges, etc. were given to people that were married, he did not believe me. I then printed out the rights (it took me like 30 pages double sided). He still didn't believe me, as this wasn't "accurate information".

Then I pull out the court document for Goodridge vs. Department of Public Health (only the first 20 pages, it is in total 160). I pointed out key quotes from the document, such as:

"The question before us is whether, ...the Commonwealth may deny the protections, benefits, and obligations conferred by civil marriage to two individuals of the same sex who wish to marry. We conclude that it may not... It forbids the creation of second-class citizens."

"Our obligation is to define the liberty of all, not to mandate our own moral code."

No, you gave him proof after proof and it just goes to show you that some people willfully remain ignorant despite the -facts-.

And then at the end all he could say was say that they should have something else.

Isn't that only going to further the differences between gay and straight people? Like segregation sorta? Upcoming generations are going to see it as yet another difference.

No, not crazy. But to spend all that time in researching something like that for such a small matter does kind of indicate you are a bit wierd.

Hey P,

Partners who have spent their lives together, and one of them goes into the hospital while dying. The other partner can not enter to visit because he is not legally "family".The gay marriage issue is kept at the prima facae stage as a common definition is derrived. If you step back and look at union as a whole,it transcends the boundaries of man and woman. It is a terminology, not a moral conjecture.Religion has no place in precedence nor does mans moral interpretations. If you allow nothing but nomenclature, specific defining aspects interpret themselves.Man has no place in it.Marriage in of itself explains itself. Now it is up to man to decide the logistics of said contract....There are no moral issues nor religious interpretations to be made.Just a decision as to HOW we do this......

Thanks P,as always you rule!

Hugs!

Pull out Brown vs. Board of Education. Separate but equal, isn't equal.
