Ah, the Masons. They are an ancient group (usually men) that have these secret meetings, agendas, etc....what they do, not too sure. I know they started (from what I know) from the time of the Ancient Egyptians. They are sometimes referred to as the Free Masons. My Grandfather was one. He never was allowed to talk about it either.

No, there isn't a "Dragon" position. The Free and Accepted Masons are the worlds oldest fraternity. It goes back to King Solomon's time. There are secret rituals that a person has to learn that are rather elaborate. There is NOTHING sinister about the Free Masons. Free Masonry is also the world's oldest and largest charitable organization.

Of the 56 signers of of the Declaration of Independence, 50 were Free Masons. George Washington, Patrick Henry, Paul Revere and of course Benjamin Franklin were Free Mason. As was Mozart, Leonardo da Vinci, Winston Churchill, Eddie Cantor, Clair Chennault, Davy Crocket, James Doolittle, Clark Gable, John Paul Jones, Douglas McArthur, Will Rogers, TR & FDR, Red Skelton, and most of America's presidents. Just to name a few. It is a noble organization. It takes brains to be a Mason, I knew I was ready for a university education when I passed the first three degrees, very quickly. It takes guts to be a Free Mason, I can't say any more than that.

In pre-WW2 Germany, and occupied lands, Free Masons were rounded up by the Nazis and slaughtered like the others the Nazis didn't like. Here in the US, and in the UK, we display our Masonic symbols openly, but those on the European continent do not.

Does that give you enough information about Free Masonry?

the freemasons are a social fraternity, they study morality through symbol, ritual and allegory. they also provide a substantial amount of charity.

i have never heard of a high dragon position in freemasonry - are you sure your friend is becoming a freemason? also, all what classes? what you talk about does not sound like freemasonry.

to some other answers:

* freemasonry is not a cult, you can leave when ever you like

* there are no secrets in freemasonry/masonry, everything is public knowlege you can read all about it at masonic and anti-masonic web sties everywhere, and you can buy books at just about any bookstore that show all the "secret rituals, handshakes, words", etc...

* the 3rd degree is the highest level of masonry/freemasonry, the 32/33 degree that you hear of is part of the scottish rite, an appendant body of freemasonry and not higher than the 3rd degree, and the bit about satan worship in the scottish rite was a hoax, do a search on taxil hoax

* if you consider studying morality, becoming a better citizen and providing $2 billion of charity in the form of free hospitals, scholarships, youth and retirement homes, anti-drug programs silly/stupid than yes they are silly and stupid.

* don't believe the conspiracy theorists regarding the freemasons and new world order, symbols on the dollar, etc... none of its true, the "all seeing eye" is symbolic of god's provinence and not a masonic symbol

* how was your son in demolay if you are not a mason? yes, the masons do get a bad rap, a very unjust bad rap. the freedom people profess to hold was given to them by the freemasons. but they don't worry about that, they don't do it to get a good rap :) they do it because it is good and someone has to do it

When you were a kid growing up did you ever form a club with your friends that had a secret handshake, a secret oath, etc.? Fast forward a few years and you have a group of grown men who have joined a social "club" that does the same things. The secret oaths, speeches, and ceremonies are called rituals. There is nothing satanic or sinister about it. I am not a Mason, but my son was in DeMolay, a organization for young men ages 12 - 21 that is sponsored by the Masons. His involvement in the organization taught him much about government, society and social skills.

Many people do not realize that the Shriners are a masonic organization. It is just one of many that benefit children and adults around the world. Say what you will, but the Masons have been given a bad rap.

My father-in-law is a Mason. He's very secretive. I have heard rumors that they are a satanic cult. Don't know if I believe that but they say that members dont' find that out until they reach the "highest levels of membership".

They do sponsor a group for young girls called Jobs Daughters. My daughter was a member for a while. I attended a meeting...it's wierd. All of the girls wear white robes and perform all kinds of rituals. Needless to say....my daughter is no longer affliated with them. The whole situation made me uneasy.

If you are speaking of the "Free Masons" they are a secret society, so they won't tell you. They are a fascinating group that go back to the middle ages. Google them and you will get a history. And know this--our country's founders were part of the group and you will see their symbol on American currency.

there is no dragon. someone is not telling you the right things. The Masons is a fraternity of men in good standing. your friend can get you in if you are a man in good standing.

it is b.s. they used to be a "secret society" consisting of bricklayers and masons and it is just an excuse to belong to something and it is very stupid.

Who even lays bricks anymore but Mexicans and we don't have secret clubs, well some do and they are called gangs so in a way, your friend has joined a gang. Call it a clique, a crowd, or a club it is just so he can feel like he "belongs".
