Question:
how come some people think that being gay is a choice?

i just want a mature discussion here. im a straight female, but i dont have a problem with gays getting married. i think its something that they should have the right to do. and i mean there are straight people who get married and abuse kids or dont even have kids, and if two gay people want to love each other and get married and adopt some poor kid or w/e i dont see how thats hurting anyone. and i dont understand why some people think that being gay is a choice. i dont think gays would WANT to be gay with all of the riot and murders and harrassments and embarassment they have had to endure. its like being born to a certain race. you just are what you are. i dont get it.

Im so glad people ask questions like this. If i had been given a choice when i was 12 years old if i wanted to be gay or straight i would have chosen straight instantly. It would have saved me from the abuse, name-calling, and hatred i received all my life growing up, but if you gave me the same "choice" today, i would chose gay. I'm so happy with who i am and if others don't want me to be happy that is their issue. Religious nuts who don't want gays to marry can ***** and moan all they want, but it isn't going to stop me from being who i am or being with whom i want. Yes, life would be easier if i was straight, but who said life is supposed to be easy?

All the intolerance i've seen has made me more tolerant. All the hatred i've seen has made me more loving. All the abuse i've seen has made me more compassionate.

I am who i am and no law, church, or politician can take that away.

You are correct.

Many people find that if gays are born that way it conflicts with their preconceived notions. Not to mention the King James bible.

It takes a little studying but being 'born gay' can be reconciled with the KJ bible. I worked it out - but have since (a few years later) dumped the 'god bit' as well.

However it is reconcilable regardless of my dumping god etc.

It's not a choice. The way those people talk makes it seem like they had the "choice" of being gay or not, and they "chose" to be straight. A little fishy if you ask me.

It's largely a result of religion - I've only seen religious people say that, to back up their belief that god says "gay is wrong". You're absolutely right - as a homosexual man I know it is NOT a choice and who would choose it with what we have to put up with? Thanks for understanding.

Ignorance, plain and simple. I think what it is is that they don't want to believe that people are born different from them or outside the relative "norm" of being straight.

Exactly! Haha. Finally a hetero that understands. :D The answer to your question is, they just don't understand. They don't get it and they don't know what they're talking about. It's pure ignorance. God forbid everyobdy not be the same, right?

Because most people can't accept others being different from them, I mean...God forbid that would happen....
