hi.
As a lesbian in a small Christan school, I'm starting a GSA. I know there are other gay kids, and all ready have people willing to join. Ive found an adviser that is willing to do it. All that is left is writing a proposal to give to the school's board. I know that my school can't turn me down because that would be discrimination, but I do know that my principal is anti-gay. I have a feeling that it might be a little hard to pass it. Has anyone ever written one for there school before? What kind of format should it be in? and do you guys have any advice as to key things I should put in it?

an anti-gay principle? that sounds like hogwarts with umbridge.lmao

hmm well just state the goals of the club..i think schools should have a format of what these things should look like. yes, but goals, any fundraisers you may participate in, any field trips? you may also want to get the signatures of all willing club members or supporters.

start dumbledore's army!!!

Use verses in the bible to justify why you should have a GSA. Read this and use some information from it. It is the best thing I ever read and it was written by a reverend who is basically proving by showing verses in the bible that say being gay is not a sin or a choice.

You should write it in professional MLA format show reasons how it will be beneficial to the school if they allow it. you always have to give them the "what's in it for me" thing. Most people won't help unless something is in it for them. Also make it known that it is a club that is meant to stop violence and hate against people who are gay and to educate others on why it is wrong to bully and commit hate crimes against people because of their orientation. Make sure they know it will help the community telling them that it is a sin to hate and that it is a sin to beat someone up because you don't understand them. and this is important that they know that it is not a place for people to *hook up*. Schools love clubs that help the community in some way. Say that anyone is allowed to join, gay straight white black blue green lol (make it include all so they don't say that it is a clique kind of club) I think you will have a lot of trouble mainly because it is hard to get it passed in a public school. Must be much harder to do it in a christian school. Christians still believe that being gay is wrong or that we are sex freaks of some kind. When this is not the case at all. No one chooses to be gay but most of them don't understand that. You may want to use some quotes in your request from pflag. here is one I used

"Can gay people change their sexual orientation or gender identity?

No – and efforts to do so aren’t just unnecessary – they’re damaging.

Religious and secular organizations do sponsor campaigns and studies claiming that GLBT people can change their sexual orientation or gender identity because there is something wrong. PFLAG believes that it is our anti-GLBT attitudes, laws and policies that need to change, not our GLBT loved ones.

These studies and campaigns suggesting that GLBT people can change are based on ideological biases and not peer-reviewed solid science. No studies show proven long-term changes in gay or transgender people, and many reported changes are based solely on behavior and not a person's actual self-identity. The American Psychological Association has stated that scientific evidence shows that reparative therapy (therapy which claims to change GLBT people) does not work and that it can do more harm than good.

"Ex-Gay" Ministries and “Reparative Therapy”

Ex-gay ministries use out-of-date and scientifically disproved medical theories to justify trying to “cure” gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) peoples' natural sexual orientation or gender identity.

Originally, these ministries were a small group of religious people who were virtually unknown. However, because of high-profile ad campaigns and conferences sponsored by the religious right these ministries have become a political tool in the ongoing fight to deny GLBT civil rights.

Ex-gay ministries believe three main things:

They are called to love GLBT people who are "struggling with sexual orientation and gender identity"

Homosexual orientation and transgender identity are chosen or are the result of bad childhood experiences

They cannot condone this "sinful" behavior and are therefore called on to change the sexual orientation of GLBT people.

PFLAG’s Position On "Reparative Therapy"

Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) opposes and deplores efforts by professional and religious groups that propose to change or repair anyone's sexual orientation. We believe such attempts originate from cultural bias based on myth, misperception and misunderstanding. We encourage all professional, educational and religious organizations to work towards changing cultural biases rather than embarking on futile and damaging efforts to change sexual orientation.

Facts Regarding "Reparative Therapy"

The record shows that “reparative therapy” has no support from the major medical and mental health professional organizations.

In 1973, the American Psychiatric Association removed the term "homosexuality" from the list of mental and emotional disorders. Sexual orientation is not a disorder; therefore, it does not need to be cured.

In 1990, the American Psychological Association stated that scientific evidence shows that reparative therapy does not work and that it can do more harm than good.

In 1998, the American Psychiatric Association stated it was opposed to reparative therapy, stating "psychiatric literature strongly demonstrates that treatment attempts to change sexual orientation are ineffective. However, the potential risks are great, including depression, anxiety and self-destructive suicidal behavior..."

Good Luck. If it is not passed bring it to the school board with proof that they are denying the club because of bigotry and no real reason other than pure racism. Keep trying to pass it.
