I saw a missing poster at the school police canteen and it listed a MTF transperson as Male and just noted at the bottom 'this man is transgender' How rude is that, calling someone who identifies as a woman and will likely undergo surgery soon to be one a man?

Should missing posters for Trans people list them as their birth gender or the gender they identify as?

I'm amazed they are even looking for a missing transperson....

Yeah, sort of not polite to be all "THIS WOMAN HAS DANGLY BITS!" like that, but it's a physical description on a poster designed to help find a missing person.

I think they should list them as transgender, and state male to female or female to male. That's not too tough to do, seeing as they sort of did that already. Just a little... ignorantly.

The gender people will most likely associate them with if they spot them somewhere.

I think it's less of a political point and more of a logistical one. If the person was most likely to be assumed to be a woman, it makes more sense to write that and increase the chances of finding them.

understand that this persons safe return is paramount not their or your feelings of offending them about sexual identity.
