Question:
Do you think that homosexuality is becoming more accepted?

Do you think that homosexuality is becoming more accepted today, and do you think that it will continue to get better and more accepted as time goes by? I know that we have come a long way in acceptance in a relatively short amount of time if you think about it.
And also how do you think America will be like in terms of accepting homosexuality in the next few decades, like maybe 2050 for example?

Oh yeah! There's no denying that homosexuality is more accepted. We've really come a long way in 50 years and even 15 years. I think things will most likely get better. Who knows what 2050 will be like.

I think homosexuality is becoming accepted in all across America it just takes alot of work to try to show people that gay people are just the way they are. Since every generation is becoming more accepting of homosexuality i think it will be even more accepted by then and I hope I live to see that day. I'll be 60 in 2050 so yeah I hope it will come.

Yes, according to cultural anthropologist Judith Butler who studies sexuality and its norms. According to Butler (see 'Thinking Sex' or any of her subsequent work), sexual acts that once were considered on the high end of unacceptable in the West, like 'vanilla homosexuality' is now considered somewhere in the middle (thus the Red/Blue state, 50/50 split in U.S. public opinion on gay issues like marriage, adoption, etc.). These acts become more acceptable when paired with other behaviors like monogamy, patriotism, etc., or less so, when paired with multiple partners, S/M, kinks, marginal political and social views and so on. Butler sees sexuality--and I think she's right--as part of a constellation of identifying behaviors that are marked for significance in the West, and that cannot be fully explained with generalizations such as 'sexual orientation.' Also, she points out that the real generalities placed on sex tend to be left out of the overt generalizations. These 'real generalizaitons,' which we tend to accept uncritically, are things like overall sex negativity (sex is bad, it's original sin, etc.) and the oversignification of sexuality (it is the be all and end all of who and what someone is, or just the fact that it's considered so very important). I the point about oversignification is the most important, and the most critically liberating. BOKO

Fortunately, yes.

By 2050, I'm 100% that all states in the U.S. and all first world countries would have legalized same sex marriage.

absolutely. people are becoming more and more enlightened every day. ignorance is defeated by education and hate is defeated by love.

by 2050 people who are homophobic will be seen in the same dark light as racists are seen now.

in some areas yes but then in other parts of the U.S. its still the same. we have along way to go. Weve made some progress because in the the 60s it wasnt talked about.

I don't think so. I think that it is only becoming more visible. Despite recent legislation by a few states vis-a-vis gay marriage, I think that our society is only becoming more polarized.

The pro-gay areas of the country are becoming more pro-gay.

The anti-gay areas (or segments of our society) are becoming more anti-gay.

Not saying I am in agreement with this, but that's the way I see it.

Yes, and yes.

By 2050, people will look upon the homophobes of today the same way we look upon the the racists of the early 1900s.

i do belive that homosexuality is becoming more accepted in some places, and i really think it will only get better. history has a way of repeating itself.

bunches of minorities seem to go through times of trial and discrimination and while it never fully goes away, things do get better. alot better :)

Tolerated? Yes.

Accepted? No.

There's a big difference in tolerance and acceptance.

It is but there is still a lot of homophobia and we still don't have equal rights. I hope we have equal rights by 2050 or before then.
