Get to know another guy (probably friend) find out some about them, then try to guess if you think you'd stand a chance or not. If you think you'll get rejected just don't try, if you think he might be curious, then go ahead and give it a shot.

i don't agree.some guys aren't gay but are curious. how dyou know he's curious? he looks at you longer than a normal guy would. he can't stop smiling when you talk to him. if you don't know him he looks like he wants to know you- yknow? like hey come talk to me. if you're gay then you'll have gaydar which is pretty reliable to some extent. this doesn't mean every guy you fancy n hope is gay will be. it just means he could be.
so to bag him? touch him. see how he reacts to you touching him. if he doesn't pull away or even jerk away slightly, you can continue to. touch him on his lower back, near his butt then his upper-butt. a straight guy won't let you get passed touching his lower back- it's too intimate n he'll say something.
conversely if you don't care about what he thinks you can tell him you wanna **** him n then flatter his ego n see what happens.
